About Natalie

I started my journey with rescue dogs in 2006 at Nottingham Trent University, where I did two degrees with canine-specific modules focused on behaviour…

Scentwork

Dogs communicate and learn about the world through scent. Smelling is the sense that dogs rely on far more than seeing and hearing. To put it into perspective, a dogs sense of smell is approximately 100,000 times stronger than humans. Yet, scentwork remains massively underutilised as a powerful tool to change behaviour in the training industry. That is not the case at Pawsitive Dog Behaviour (PDB). Natalie has been using scentwork to help reactive dogs since 2007 and not only recognises scentwork as a fantastic sport to build teamwork between dogs and owners but also to create a physiological change in dogs with behaviour issues.

Changing the way dogs feel about reactivity triggers is at the core of what we do, making the world a better place for reactive dogs and their owners, one dog at a time. Owning a reactive dog can be very isolating and detrimental to the health of the dog. That’s why Natalie is creating a community of reactive dogs and owners working together to develop World Scent Dog Association (WSDA) skills while helping their dogs overcome reactivity. PDB is proud to be the first to offer official WSDA competitions and workshops exclusively for reactive dogs.

Pawsitive Scentwork Solutions: Helping barking, lead pulling, reactive dogs

If your dog barks, pulls on the lead, reacts badly in some situations when on a lead, this is a community group working together through similar issues with their dogs, under the guidance of Dog Behaviourist and Trainer, Natalie, The founder of Pawsitive Dog Behaviour.

Scentwork for

Reactive Dogs

Dogs collect different smells from the environment, scent information travels from the Olfactory bulb to the limbic system, which manages emotions, memory and behaviour. Therefore we can use scentwork to build our dogs’ confidence and replace lead pulling, barking, lunging, growling and generally reacting badly to situations when on a lead, with a dog that actively chooses scentwork instead.

Scentwork promotes:

  • Calmness
  • Focus
  • Resilience to scary things
  • Better behaviour choices

Nosework and Reactivity Training Walks

Dog Training Walks

This training experience is designed for previous clients of Pawsitive Dog Behaviour who have been through one of our behaviour programmes for their reactive dog, or have been work with any positive-based trainer ideally. That have reached a certain level of experience and skill to manage difficult situations and keep their dogs below the threshold for stress for the most part, but require some real world experience around unfamiliar dogs and people in public areas such as the idyllic public footpath pictured in the photo on your left. This is an intermediate class and any dogs unable to cope will be sent home meaning a few dogs will not be present for the entire hour.

Training help will be provided on the day as well as some nosework exercises and activities to help your dog cope and encourage appropriate behaviour.

Owners are expected to attend unless they have paid an additional fee for their dog to be trained by Aaliyah.

Training walks are held in Nottingham NG12.
